All Types Decking Material

Distance education involves various courses for certificates, diplomas, degrees as well as college credit. A college providing distance learning doesn't necessarily provide a full degree on the Web. More colleges embrace online degree programs plus increase the number of classes given toward a degree, though certain degrees are provided in abundance via online degree programs when others take certain research to find. Management, business, marketing as well as related business study areas are the simplest degree programs online to locate when conducting research. A lot of universities and colleges offer master, bachelor and associate degrees in business administration entirely online. The attractiveness of this opportunity is the capability to earn a degree without even stepping foot in a class. Another benefit is the capability to keep working so that to build work experience as well as longevity with an agency when continuing your studies. There are numerous MBA degree programs online obtainable for students willing to continue their learning plus work simultaneously. Some areas of study like education and nursing provide courses towards an online degree. These areas require much of in-service work plus are impractical areas of study to provide completely on the Internet. These degrees give various courses occurring all through the degree program. That way you will not be stuck with classes online that occur the first years of the program. Actually, master degrees are much easier to locate in these areas than bachelor degrees. And the masters degree programs are typically only for certified or registered teachers and nurses.

    question:

What is the square foot cost for decks made with treks ?
what is the cost differance between the new type deck material and treated wood, what is the average square foot cost for each.
I am in the Chicago land area.

    answer:

    http://www.trex.com/faqs/

Certainly the base cost for materials is higher than treated lumber, and many might advise a different trade name. TREX was first and still evolving. Above is there official site, that will offer pricing in a general sense perhaps, but factors such as where it's purchased should be considered.

Any Lowes or HD, given a materials list and measurements can price the cost at their contractor desk. That would not include labor to install.

    AKA: The Deck Doc
    Just my 2 "sense"

    question:

How has your Trex deck held up? Anybody have a Correct Deck? I want to compare the two to decide which to get?
My inground pool needs a new deck, and I want to get a composite type decking to avoid splinters and to hold up better around the pool. Can anybody tell me about their composite material decking and how well it has satisfied your needs?

    answer:

I dont personally have one, but remember, a composit will be HOT in the Summer time!! Burning foot hot! Unlike wood deck, plastic gets hot and will expand, so leave a lot of room because it can expand a few inches in extreme heat.

You may even want to have a spray going over the deck at various times, so that you wont burn yourself and the kids.
Just put some drains under it, or put it over a rock bed, and have water spraying over the deck, going down into the gravel, into a drain so that it cools it...

Just my thoughts... (also, it keeps it from expanding and popping any nails or screws out too)..

    question:

what products are available to apply as a thermal barrier under the decking in the attic?
I have heard on radio talk shows that there are great energy saving benefits of adding thermal shield coating to the underside of the roof decking material. Here in the south the summer temps. reach near 100 degrees in summer months and energy costs have soared recently.

    answer:

    Radiance Low-e PAint.
do a search on Yahoo. just type Radiance Low-e paint. or go to your LOCAL paint store, they may be able to order it for you. it is expensive.

    question:

What is the best deck to combat arch type decks and/or loop draw decks?
ive been playing on duelingnetwork.com for a week now and i have seen basically the same decks (or deck types) basically in every match. ive seen decks where peoples cards compliment at least one or more other cards and are able to constantly summon monsters. i know that this is extremely effective since i lost quite a few times, but there must be a way to beat those decks. the other deck type ive seen is where people would use card effects or spell cards to draw half their deck in one turn to summon exodia or something. im using a deck that discourages summoning by using "chain energy", a spell card that makes you pay 500 LP for every card one summons or sets, and i have a couple of "mill" cards, cards that make you discard multiple cards, such as "needle worm". they have proven effective those kinds of decks (if i can draw them early enough). so please suggest another strategy, or other cards that will do the same. i refuse to use an arch type deck or infinite draw deck.

    answer:

Honestly all can say is be creative. Find a monster you really like and base a deck around it.

Take me for instance, I really like Gagaga Magician. Don't really know why, but I do. It's effect is the following:

"Once per turn: You can declare a Level from 1 to 8; this card becomes that Level until the End Phase. You can only control 1 "Gagaga Magician". This card cannot be used as a Synchro Material Monster."

Now since it's eff says I can't use it in synchros I use Xyz's instead.

To compliment Gagaga Magician I added Gagaga Girl (who's effect is that it's level can become equal to Gagaga Magician's) as well as Cyber dragon (for a quick summon on first turn or something like that ) for Rank 5 Xyz's or Mystic Tomato to Special summon Magician or Girl from deck.

I have Call of the Haunted to bring them back and reuse them for more XYZ's from grave as well as Monster Reborn. I also added a Mind Control so I can use my opponents monster for an Xyz summon as well.

All just to compliment and help one monster I created a pretty successful deck.

I had the same problem when I started on Dueling Network as well though. All I played were Exodia and Burn decks. Six Samurai and Inzektors and Wind-Ups. To be honest it was quite boring.

    Some cards I recommend are:

Thunder King Rai Oh: He can negate special summons by tributing himself and while Face up neither player can add cards from deck to hand. So Pot of Duality and other such cards become dead draws until Rai Oh leaves field.

Jowgen the Spiritualist: Can discard 1 card to destroy all Special summoned monsters as well prevent any more special summons from either player while face up.

Secret Village of the Spellcasters: While you control a face up Spellcaster your opponent cannot use spells.

Skill/Mind/Soul Drain: Negate monster effects either on field(skill) in hand(mind) or in grave(Soul)

Appropriate: Lets you draw 2 cards every time your opponent draws out side draw phase

Number 16: Shock Master: A rank 4 xyz monster that allows you to detach an xyz material to prevent either any monster effects/spells/or traps to be activated until your opponents next end phase (requires 3 lv 4 monsters)

A deck type I find that can work well together is a Naturia/ Blackwing combo. I know you said you wanted to get away from archetypes, but this is a rather successful deck I've also had. So definitely combine different archetypes as well and see what works.

Well I hope that this is helpful and you find what your looking for!!

    Good Luck!!!

    question:

what is the best way to clean and protect decking?
I have a problem with the trees dropping sap on to the decking and causing it to be very slippery. Thanks in advance.

    answer:

What type of deck material and what kind of trees? I have a large wooden deck with a red oak tree growing up through a hole. The tree was planted by my father so I didn't want to cut it down. However, it is very messy with leaves, twigs and birds, but not so much sap. You can try mopping with kerosene or paint thinner and washing with soap and water. Of course, you will get some odor at first from the kerosene but it will wash away. Use a scented laundry detergent to help the smell. Also, be careful of fire until you wash the kerosene away.
If your deck is made of wood you can prevent it from being slick by painting. While the paint is still wet, sprinkle sand over it and add a second coat of paint after the first dries.
    Good luck.

    question:

How many different types of plastic are there?
Local Authorities are giving residents a hard time because they are putting "the wrong type of plastic" in the bins for re-cycling. How on earth are we supposed to know the difference beween all the different types of plastic there are in the world?

Does anyone have any idea just how many differrent types of plastic there are?

    answer:

There are many types of plastic. Plastic must be sorted by type for recycling since each type melts at a different temperature and has different properties. The plastics industry has developed an identification system (or identification codes) to label the different types of plastic. The identification system divides plastic into seven distinct types and uses a number code generally found on the bottom of containers. The following table explains the seven code system:

    Plastic No. 1
    Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET, PETE)

    Description:

Plastic No. 1 (PET, PETE) is clear, tough, and has good gas and moisture barrier properties and is resistance to heat.

    Common Uses:

Plastic soft drink, water, sports drink, beer, mouthwash, catsup and salad dressing bottles, peanut butter, pickle, jelly and jam jars, prepared food trays and film that is used to cook frozen foods and roast.

Commonly used in soft drink bottles and many injection molded consumer product containers. Other applications include strapping and both food and non-food containers.

    Recycled Products Include:

Fiber, tote bags, clothing, film and sheet, food and beverage containers, carpet, strapping, fleece wear, luggage and bottles.

Cleaned, recycled PET flakes and pellets are in great demand for spinning fiber for carpet yarns, producing fiberfill and geo-textiles.

    Nickname...Polyester.

    Plastic No. 2
    High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)

    Description:

HDPE has stiffness, strength, toughness, resistance to chemicals and moisture, permeability to gas, ease of processing, and ease of forming.

    Common Uses:

Milk, water, juice, cosmetic, shampoo, dish and laundry detergent bottles; yogurt and margarine tubs; cereal box liners; grocery, trash and retail bags.

HDPE is used to make bottles for milk, juice, water and laundry products. Unpigmented bottles are translucent, have good barrier properties and stiffness, and are well suited to packaging products with a short shelf life such as milk. Because HDPE has good chemical resistance, it is used for packaging many household and industrial chemicals such as detergent and bleach. Pigmented HDPE bottles have better stress crack resistance than unpigmented HDPE bottles.

    Recycled Products Include:

Liquid laundry detergent, shampoo, conditioner and motor oil bottles; pipe, buckets, crates, flower pots, garden edging, film and sheet, recycling bins, benches, dog houses, plastic lumber, floor tiles, picnic tables, fencing.

    Plastic No. 3
    Vinyl (Polyvinyl Chloride or PVC)

    Description:

Versatility, clarity, ease of blending, strength, toughness,

In addition to its stable physical properties,
PVC has excellent grease, oil and chemical resistance, performs well in all weather, flow characteristics and stable electrical properties.

The diverse slate of vinyl products can be broadly divided into rigid and flexible materials.

    Common Uses:

Clear food and non-food packaging, salad dressing and liquid detergent containers, loose-leaf binders, medical tubing, wire and cable insulation, film and sheet, construction products such as plastic pipes, fittings, decking, paneling, gutters, mud flaps, siding, floor tiles, carpet backing and window frames..

Bottles and packaging sheet are major rigid markets, but it is also widely used in the construction market for such applications as pipes and fittings, siding, carpet backing and windows.

Flexible vinyl is used in wire and cable insulation, film and sheet, floor coverings synthetic leather products, coatings, blood bags, medical tubing and many other applications.

    Recycled Products Include:

Packaging, film and sheet, floor tiles and mats, resilient flooring, cassette trays, electrical boxes, cables, traffic cones, garden hose, mobile home skirting.

    Plastic No. 4
    Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE)

    Description:

Used predominately in film applications due to its ease of processing, strength, toughness, flexibility, relative transparency, and ease of sealing, and its barrier to moisture, making it popular for use in applications where heat sealing is necessary.

    Common Uses:

Dry cleaning bags, produce bags, trash can liners, bread and frozen food bags, food storage containers, squeezable bottles, e.g. honey, mustard

LDPE is also used to manufacture some flexible lids and bottles and it is used in wire and cable applications

    Recycled Products Include:

Shipping envelopes, garbage can liners, floor tile, furniture, film and sheet, compost bins, paneling, trash cans, landscape timber, lumber

    Plastic No. 5
    Polypropylene (PP)

    Description:

Polypropylene has strength, toughness, resistance to heat, chemicals, grease and oil, versatile, barrier to moisture and has a high melting point making it good for hot-fill liquids.

PP is found in flexible and rigid packaging to fibers and large molded parts for automotive and consumer products.

    Common Uses:

Catsup bottles, yogurt containers and margarine tubs, medicine bottles, aerosol caps, drinking straws

    Recycled Products Include:

Automobile battery cases, signal lights, battery cables, brooms, brushes, ice scrapers, oil funnels, bicycle racks, rakes, bins, pallets, sheeting, trays

    Plastic No. 6
    Polystyrene (PS)

    Description:

Polystyrene is versatile, good insulation, clarity, and an easily formed plastic that can be rigid or foamed.

General purpose polystyrene is clear, hard and brittle. It has a relatively low melting point.

    Common Uses:

Compact disc jackets, food service applications, grocery store meat trays, egg cartons, aspirin bottles, packaging pellets or Styrofoam peanuts, plastic tableware...cups, cutlery, plates meat trays, to-go "clam shell" containers

Other applications include protective packaging, containers, lids, cups, bottles and trays.

    Recycled Products Include:

Thermometers, light switch plates, thermal insulation, egg cartons, vents, desk trays, rulers, license plate frames, foam packing, foam plates, cups, utensils

    Plastic No. 7
    Other Plastics

    Description:

Use of this code indicates that the package in question is made with a resin other than the six listed above, or is made of more than one resin listed above, and used in a multi-layer combination.

    Common Uses:

Three and five gallon reusable water bottles, some citrus juice and catsup bottles

Certain kinds of food containers and Tupperware.

    Recycled Products Include:

    Bottles, plastic lumber applications

    question:

What are the staples for each of these deck types?
I want to know what cards are staples for each of these deck types?

    Elemental heroes
    Destiny heroes
    Evil heroes
    Neo heroes
    Omni heroes

Needless to say... Elemental hero stratos is the biggest staple for any hero deck.
Just in case of any confusion.. By neo heroes, i mean neo spacians. I said neo heroes because they fuse with elemental hero neos.

    answer:

    Elemental Hero
    - e emergency call
    - polymerization
    - miracle fusion
    - reinforcement of the army
    - elemental hero fusion material(avian, bustinatrix, prisma, etc)
    etc

Destiny Hero(depends, if you build d end dragoon deck, clock tower prison isn't needed)
    - destiny hero plasma
    - destiny hero diamond dude
    - clock tower prison
    - destiny draw
    - reinforcement of the army
    etc

    Evil Hero
    - elemental hero material(avian, bustinatrix, sparkman, clayman, prisma, etc)
    - dark fusion
    - dark calling
    - evil hero infernal prodigy
    - evil hero malicious edge
    etc

Omni Hero(i think this is same with pure elemental hero, only the extra deck is changed)
    - elemental hero prisma
    - polymerization
    - miracle fusion
    - e emergency call
    - all omni hero fusion
    etc

there is no heroes named neo heroes.

And the rest is standard staple in every deck like dark hole, monster reborn, mst, heavy storm, mirror force, torrential tribute, etc.

    question:

What is the best wood to build a deck with in Florida?
I want to build a 10' x 24' deck for my house. What would be the strongest and most affordable wood for this project? Also I live in Florida so it is very humid. Thank you!

    answer:

Nobody reads the question before responding. You are building a deck, and want to know the strongest wood. The framing of the deck (the posts, beams, floor joists) should be built using treated yellow pine (ACQ treated lumber). Everyone else here is giving you their opinion on the decking material to use. There are many choices of decking, but the strongest and most affordable is still treated deck boards (also ACQ treated yellow pine, in 5/4 x 6 inch eased edge boards). If you can afford to use a composite, that's fine.

You will spend 0 - 0 on the treated framework of you deck.
You will need 240 sq. ft. (44 each 12' pieces of 5/4x6 material) for your decking. This will range from 0 to ,400 (yes, ,400) depending on what type of decking you choose.

    question:

running natural gas to my garage?
I would like to run natural gas to my garage. I would like to do it as cheaply as possible but still be safe. Could I buy a type of line to run without burying it? My garage is close to my house and is connected through a deck so I would run it under the deck. what materials are safe for natural gas and is this a legal way to run it?
I work in the industrial maintenance field and am inclined to do this type of work.

    answer:

    no
only a licensed plumber or the gas company can run it,
if you do it and there is a leak or fire , your insurance co will drop you,

    question:

Do I need a permit to expand my deck by 3 ft?
I am planning on expanding my deck only by 3 ft, this spring when I replace the decking. Do I need a permit to extend it just by 3 ft?

    answer:

As a contractor and deck builder I can tell you, as a general rule of thumb, to change the size of a structure a permit would be required by any building department. A 3 foot increase is significant and the underlying structure (beams, joist sizes and spacing, post layout, footing sizes) will probably need to be modified for the increased loads. Specifics of what you'll need to do will depend on how your deck is currently constructed and the changes you wish to make. If you are hoping to just add longer joists over you existing structural frame I wouldn't recommend that without analysis. Some towns don't require permits for "repairs" such as replacing existing decking or railings with similar (but new) materials, but you would want to check. I'd suggest bringing in a professional for this type of change to a deck, particularly if it is more than a few feet off the ground. You'll find more information that may be useful to you in the deck area of my website http://www.propertyvisionllc.com/

    question:

What other competitive decks are out there besides teledad?
I am going to my first regional on jan 10 in 3 years and I built my deck around countering teledad with a lot of cards countering special summoning like kycoo, solemns, divine wrath, royal oppresion etc. I am wondering what I should also side deck against? I know that like 90% of people play teledad but its possible I get someone who plays something else 1 round and I need to side deck good.

    answer:

The most competitive decks out right now apart from Teleport Dark Armed Dragon are:

    Lightsworns
    Gladiator Beasts
    Zombies
    Monarchs

The best things to side against these deck types are:

    Light Imprisoning Mirror
    Shadow Imprisoning Mirror
    Prohibition
    Royal Oppression
    Black Horn of Heaven
    Dust Tornado
    Malevolent Catastrophe

You should side deck all cards listed above and a few other cards such as "Des Wombat" or "Prime Material Dragon" to counter Burn decks. Hope this helps.

    question:

How to build a deck in a garden apartment?
Behind our unit is an underground rectangle of concrete that commonly has sitting water, just enough to keep the concrete wet looking. My room mates and I would like to construct an 8x4..ish deck to raise above the wet concrete. We had the idea to just line up a few pallets and top it with plywood but I'm sure someone out there has a better, economical, idea for us?

    answer:

I believe you're on the right track, but need to refine it a tad. If you sit the pallets on the wet area the moisture will eventually travel to the ply. But if you sat the pallets on bricks which are laid as if you were building a brick wall with a damp course shown in green on this picture http://www.dampserve.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/wall10.gif the damp course needs to be a plastic type material, seeing this is a MacGyver deck any type plastic would do.

    question:

What dragon would be the best to build a deck around?
I want to know what is your opinion on what is the best dragon monster to build a Yugioh deck around. My obvious choices are Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon, Cyber End Dragon, and Five Headed Dragon. What do you think of the previous dragons, and are there any better to build a deck around?

    answer:

    well i would say

    - totem dragon, it can be used as 2 monsters for a dragon tribute plus if you have no monsters you can special summon it back to the field then its removed from play after you use that effect

    - armed dragons lv3,5,7 (10) optional, for LV7 send 1 monster card from your hand to destroy all your opponents monsters whos attack is equal or lower than the discard monster, but for LV10 discard one card from your hand to destroy all your opponents monsters

    - Horus lv4,6,8 it negates a spell card and it destroys it

    - exploder dragon, it destroys the monster who destroys it and you dont lose any points

    - genesis dragon, discard one dragon to the grave to add one dragon from your grave to your hand and when it goes to the grave you can add all the dragons in the grave to your deck

    - blues eyes

    - white stone of legend, if its sent to the grave add one blue eyes to your hand

    - red eyes, [wyvern,black dragon,darkness,&darkness metal]

    - tiger dragon, if its tribute summoned using a dragon you can destroy 2 spell/trap on your opponents field

    - decoy dragon, if its attacked you can special summon a lv7 monster from your grave to take its place

    - white horn dragon since you can remove from play 5 spell from opponent and it raises it attack by 300 each

    - montage dragon, special summon it by discarding 3 monster and its attack is equal to the monsters level combined x300, example discard 3 red eyes darkness metal and the total level combined is 30 then x300 it attack is 9000

    - luster dragon, lv4 dragons with 1900 attack

    - kaiser gliders , when its destroyed you can return one monster on the field to its owners hand

    - spear dragon (optional)

    - prime material dragon, instead of losing points youre gaining points

    - tyrant dragon, negates trap and if your opponent has another monster on the field it attacks again

    - des volsgalphs since it raises attack by 200 for every spell used and inflicts 500 for every monster is destroys

    - strong wind dragon, if you offer a dragon to tribute summon and it gains 1/2 its attack strength

    - vice dragon, if you control no monster and your opponent does you can special summon it but ut attack and defence are halved

    - clear vice dragon (optional) it has ?? attack but when it attacks an opponent monster its attack is doubled the attack the opposing monster, if it would be destroyed just discard one card from your hand.

    spell

    - future fusion
    - stamping destruction - destroys 1 spell/trap and the owner of that card loses 500 point
    - dragon's gunfire, destroys a monster w/ 800 defence or inflict 800 point to your opponent

    traps

    - d tribe. all monsters on the field are dragons
    - dna surgery make all monsters one type

but i have 3 monsters you can use

    - buster blader
    - dark magican
    - dark paladin, it gains 500 for every dragon on field and grave so use future fusion to bring him out then use d. tribe/dna surgery to make every monster a DRAGON so paladin gains 500 points each but i recommend dna surgery since its continuous and d. tribe is well used for 1 turn

hope this helps sorry its kidda long.

    question:

Are there any composite decking materials that are suitable for permanent contact with the ground?
I want to replace the deteriated pressure treated lumber that is used to construct the raised garden beds in my court yard. One side of the material will be exposed to the ground as well as 6 inches totally under ground. Pressure treated lumber has lasted only 3 or 4 years.

    answer:

Known by a number of brand names, most notably Trex and TimberTech, this durable blend of wood fibers and plastic weathers without disintegrating, maintains its shape, does not shrink or expand, and will last the lifetime of the residence. These plastic-wood composite products compare favorably with traditional pressure-treated wood decking and typically come paintable or stainable in brown and gray. Composite decking weathers, like wood, but will age to an even tone without deteriorating. It is dimensionally consistent, won't splinter, has no knotholes, is completely rot-resistant, and requires no annual sealing. Composite decking lacks the strength of wood, however, and won't span the same distances as wood. With appropriate structural support, composite decking is well suited to first floor and above-ground decks. Plastic structural beams are not readily available in all markets and tend to make the deck bouncy, so pressure-treated wood is most commonly used to support this type of decking.

    question:

Does the deck have to be strong on a model suspension bridge?
I have Styrofoam as the model bridge deck is that good or does it need to be stronger?

    answer:

The deck has to be strong enough not to collapse under the weight of the traffic loads, and it must be rigid enough to be able to transfer the traffic loads to the other supporting members.

The spacing of the deck supports usually determines the thickness and type of decking material required.

Styrofoam is relatively rigid and should work well if supported correctly.

    question:

Is there a company that produces recycled plastic building materials for inside homes?
I'm looking for companies that produce 100% recycled building materials and products (plastic timbers, they can be made out of other things in combination with the plastic as long as it's all 100% recycled material) that can be used for the frame of a home, interior and exterior walls, ceilings, floor boards, stairwells, interior railings, etc. Thank you very much for your time :)

    answer:

don't know if this will help you or not, but there is a product called Trex, which is made from 100 % recycled plastics mixed with recycled wood. the company is based in virginia. they make decking. perhaps they would be able to make what you are seeking, if they don;t already have it. good luck. just type in Trex in a search block.....if you are having trouble let me know, thanx ...c ya!

    question:

Wanting to get a wood deck built?
I'm looking to start getting estimates for a wood deck. What information I should know before I speak to people and what information I should be asking them?

    answer:

First decide what type deck you want. The type of materials to use etc. Most people use pressure treated lumber and decking, but high end decks are made with expensive woods like mahogany. Get atleast 3 estimates form licensed and insured contractors. It usually pays to avoid the large companies that advertise a lot. Ask at your local mom&pop type hardware store, friends and neighbor, etc. There are a lot of 'fly by nights' so make sure to check them out before signing anything.

    question:

Roughly how much a square meter will it cost to build decking?
I know that I can get a price for decking. But to do a budget roughly how much would it cost per m2 for decking (to include base, boards, screws etc).

    answer:

The type and quality of materials chosen determine the total price and nobody could give you anything but a very rough guesstimate without actually knowing just what is on the plans. But having a deck built from composite material installed in a simple linear pattern, steps and railings, all supported by pressure-treated joists and 4x4 posts set into concrete footings is approximately 0-0 per sm.

    question:

What material should i use for my outdoor mini ramp?
ok, so me and my dad are thinking of building a mini ramp for skateboarding, and i was wondering what material/paint would be be for layering it. We live in connecticut, so it would be exposed to rain/snow, though it would probably be covered in tarp in winter. What material and paint should i use to protect it, how much should be used, where can i buy it and how much will it cost?

    answer:

You can coat the sides and decks with any weather resistant type of deck protector, but for the skating surface, I wouldn't paint it or coat it. Try to find 4x8 sheets of stuff called "skatelite" or "ramp-armor". Those work the best. Definitely don't use regular masonite sheets on an outdoor ramp unless they are weather treated or you don't mind replacing them on a regular basis. You can ask at Home Depot or Lowe's or a local wood supplier about weather treated masonite, and they can help you hopefully.
Oh and don't forget to use weather resistant or decking screws.
    Good luck!!

    question:

What's the easiest and most cost effective method of installing piers for a deck?
There would probably be only one laborer (me) and the soil is rocky and ridden with old roots. What type of equipment should I plan on renting for this?

    answer:

You can rent a 1 man power auger. It will allow you to dig the holes very quickly and accurately. You'll need to ask the rental center how deep based on the frost level. If you don't go beyond that depth, the posts will just heave out of the ground and ruin your deck. You can also rent an electric cement mixer instead of doing it by hand. It's worth the money. So after all this you should really get a book on decks to learn how to do a proper layout of the piers, as well as joist placement, etc. You're going to spend a lot in materials. No sense saving on the book and waisting hundreds on materials because it wasn't done right the first time.

    question:

I have a question about a new deck and door?
We wanted to get a new front deck, and possibly a new front door that is durable. Our company we went with that did our roof, they wanted to charge us 9,000 for both, is that reasonable or is it a rip off?? The new deck they offer, is not made of wood, the pieces are interlocked securely. What company would you recommend if that price is too high that would get the job done, offer a great warranty on both projects, reasonable price and most importantly a quality product?

    answer:

In order to judge the price I need to know the square footage of the deck, and the size and type of your front door.

The decking they are opffering you is a bit more expensive than a pressure treated limber deck, but it is well worth it. You will have very little maintenance issues, other than washing it down with mild soap and water once in a while.

It's OK to ask for a detailed breakdown of costs. How much for labor? How much for the decking material? How much for the door? Can you save a few dollars if you supply the door? Explain to the contractor, that you are just trying to get educated on Time and materials costs for other projects around the home.

There is one point that concerns me, though. I never ask an electrician to do plumbing, or a finish carpenter to do electrical work. I would NEVER ask a roofer to do complex construction or carpentry, especially with a load bearing situation like a deck!!

I suggest you call a contractor that specializes in decking and renovations of this type. Hire the RIGHT people to do the job.

    question:

What effect does dog feces and urine have on Trex or other composite deck products?
We have two small dogs who are accustomed to doing their business on our deck (it's second story and no way for them to get to the lawn). We're getting the deck surface replaced with either Trex or Fiberon decking. Do you know what effect their "business" will have on that type of materials? Thanks.

    answer:

lol Look what I found on answers! All about cleaning animal leavings from Trex. :))

    question:

What is the most inexpensive, but appropriate wood for an outside play house for my sons?
I would like to build a simple playhouse for my boys in our back yard, but with the multitude of types of wood available, I don't know what is the best choice. It needs to be able to withstand the weather and the roughness of boys at play-but be realistically priced for a mother of five.

    answer:

Possibly composits like the decking material. There are no splinters it is easy to work easy to fasten and virtually indestructible.
Maybe a little pricey but you might save on finishing because it holds up better.
But you will have to cut any knot holes for their spyglasses-

    question:

How do you install a roof under a deck?
We have a patio under our deck and would like to install a roof under the deck so that we can still enjoy our patio even when it's raining. How do we go about this project?

    answer:

I'm not sure what they call this type of material but, here is a pic http://www.flickr.com/photos/leejordan/234246393/

In the pic it is used atop but, they make wooden spacers which you can screw to the bottom of the deck then screw the plastic to the spacers. The spacer vary in thickness and have the same curvy profile as the sheet. The middle spacer would be thin and each one next to it would be a bit bigger creating pitch for the water to run off to each side. I suppose you could make it run in one direction if you start at one side. This roof was clear but I have seen it in other colors and Surely they make metal roofing you could use in the same way or even make you own spacers with other materials. Use screws with rubber washers to avoid leaks and silicon inside any seams.

    question:

Is there a good guide on the visconti tarot deck?
I am looking for a guide about interpreting the visconti tarot deck, not a historical/art guide of the deck.

    answer:

dWali has a point, the deck was rediscovered only in parts... another point to consider is that the deck, as far as we know, was not created as a divinatory system, but was commissioned as a deck of playing cards for a game. That means that the original artists probably had no intention of the cards being used in a divinatory manner. The meanings of the cards were assigned (or "discovered") later and new decks were created to demonstrate these meanings, so no original guide would exist and any more recent guide would be based on these later "discoveries" and would apply more to the more recent decks (such as the RW deck).

Your best bet for exploring the Viscontti deck as a divinatory tool is to read some of the early materials on tarot as a divination or spiritual system... probably by Levi or Crowley. Even the guide that came with my own version of the Viscontti uses the interpretations that are common for the Rider Waite deck and if you examine the Viscontti cards side-by-side with the RW deck, you can see that there is little reason to interpret that deck by the much more complex RW system.
Try looking into how ordinary playing cards are read to get an idea of how the system works for decks that don't have anything but "pips" on the pip cards. Training yoruself to understand the numerological system side-by-side with the elements/suits will be a good guide for that type of deck as well.

I received my (mini) Viscontti this Dec as a gift and I love them... they are simple and straightforward, beautiful artwork and they lend themselves easily to quick, simple interpretations, but only if you're already somewhat familiar with the tarot system and/or numerology. I tend to read them by layering the RW-based interpretations over the minor arcana.
Best of luck and I hope you fidn somethign itneresting!

    question:

Does anybody know how to use timber sleepers for decking?
G'day, I am planning on using timber sleepers to create a walkway around my pool, however, I am not to sure how to go about it; ie, How to prepare the surface to lay the timber and the best type of oil to use to prevent the wood from rotting. Thanks,

    answer:

The hardest thing about laying down sleeper is to create a level finished surface. It requires a solid and level surface. This is done by excavating down to the clay, using a tamper to compress the clay and a layer of loose gravel raked and levelled.

Place down some landscape cloth to prevent grass and weeds from growing up through you walkway and lay down the sleepers. It might be a good idea to drill holes through the timbers and drive spikes or rebar through the holes into the ground to limit movement.

Then work down the walkway and level the timbers on both sides using shims. Its a detailed process which will be significantly easier with a laser level or transit; but an ordinary straight-edge and level will work. A little PL-400 on the shims should suffice as a way of securing the shims to the timbers.

The final stage is the cutting and placement of the decking material.

For all exterior wood projects, pressure-treated lumber is the best choice. However, any wood which comes in contact with the earth needs to be pressure treated. Most pressure treated lumber has a life-span of 25 years when exposed to the weather. Non-treated lumber has a life-expectancy of about half as long. You can extend the life of your walkway by using a thick tar-like sealant on the bottom and sides of the timbers, but it makes for a messy job.

    question:

What type of cleaner can I use on my deck furniture umbrella?
Just opened up my umbrella for my deck furniture and noticed all kinds of mold and mildew. The material is a dark tan so I can't bleach it but want to get rid of the dirt and mold and green moss. It would be hard to scrub the fabric so maybe something that I can spray and then hose down?
    Thanks!

    answer:

I use the DampRid Mold and Mildew cleaner and protector for fabrics available in the cleaning aisle at the Lowes. I've used Krud Kutter before and it works to clean off the mildew and algae green stuff, but it does not protect the fabric from having more mildew grow (like if you put the umbrellas down during rain and high wind). The DampRid kills the root of the mold and mildew, then leaves a residue that keeps it from growing again. I have 4 umbrellas out there and treat them at the beginning and end of each season, now I don't open them up to grossness any more.

    question:

How much should I spend redoing my deck for it to be worth it?
I have a small house with a small deck that is old and needs to either be sanded down 3'4" or completely rebuilt to repair the damage it has sustained. We bought the house for 720,000 a year ago and zillow right now says it is worth 746,000. How much will the repair to the deck cost and how much would it bring back? We live in Marin County, CA.

    answer:

You know, people ask these kind of questions all the time and they are so broad. It really depends on the ACTUAL size of the deck (small doesn't tell us much), the type of wood now there, or what type you would replace it with, etc. You need to consult those who build decks and get estimates, then compare to the materials and labor YOU would put in to refurbish your existing deck. In other words, YOU will need to do some legwork here. Also, the type of foundation under the deck is important, as some counties and towns require a more elaborate foundation than do others. Ask a realtor what adding a new deck would add to your home value-wise. And, unless you are selling the home immediately AFTER putting on a new deck, their answer won't be valid forever. Prices change, and decks go in and out of favor. A deck is NOT considered a permanent structure, either. It's actually of LESS value than you probably think and if it's small, then even more so, Also, homes usually don't go up in value quite as much as you are stating (26,000 in one year) even in California, but perhaps yours is a special case or something. With the depressed RE market, that seems a little off.

    question:

What type of timber & screws do I need to use to repair the decking on my jetty?
A stepped down area at the end of my jetty (which is subject to tidal soaking) need to have boards replaced because they have become very spongy. I want to repair the area but am unsure what materials to use.

    answer:

I don't know what the life expectancy of pressure treated wood would be under the conditions described, surely not too long. There are alternative materials that might be better. I searched "impervious decking material" and found several web sites, one that says it has a 25 year warranty. You might check it out, or some of the others that come up. The one I read was: http://www.eonoutdoor.com/ ...Good Luck...

    question:

How can I make a yugioh elemental hero deck?
I have been playing yugioh for a long time now but I cannot seem to figure out how to make a yugioh elemental hero deck. I have a lot of trouble trying to keep up with the card seeing as I'm in school for truck driving. but I love to play and I have a bunch of elemental heroes.

    answer:

e hero decks can be run any number of ways. the way i prefer to build e-heroes is by using cards like e-hero shining(fusion), e-hero gaia(fusion) e-hero absolute zero(fusion) , and e-hero great tornado(fusion)..all of which are easy to bring out because they require just a monster of that type and any e-hero to make...whereas most other e-hero fusions require specific monsters. obviously polymerization is a must...but also miracle fusion(which allows you to fuse from the graveyard) skyscraper two...which lets you special summon heroes during your standby phase(if they were destroyed by battle)...e-hero prisma is a lvl four effect monster which lets you send fusion material monsters from the deck to the grave to change prisma's name to that monster..so he is good for combos with miracle fusion...king of the swamp is another REALLY good card for this deck...it's a lvl 3 water monster that can either be substituted for any fusion or discarded to search the deck for a poly...those cards are just to get you started. of course you should also use staples-cards like monster reborn and bottomless traphole that are used in almost every deck..oh and you should also use a utopia in that deck..if you don't know what that is it's a rank four xyz that fits perfectly with e-heroes because almost all e-hero monsters are lvl 4

    question:

What is a way to make and inexpensive but good quality dock?
So basically i need a way to make a basic dock with a budget(maximum 0)already have most of the material and here is the second question how do you make a dock? is there any how to sites?

    answer:

I have to agree with chads opening sentence; quality and inexpesnsivel in this case especially; does not compute.

It would be helpful to know WHAT materials you already have; and the type of Dock you might prefer. Obviously a floating dock is one type.

Piling driven into the water and floor of the body of water is another method.

HOW; is similar to decking; and every case should include treated lumber.

    question:

Where can I buy exterior grade laminated or engineered lumber to build deck stairs?
I am re-building deck stairs and would like to build the new stair stringers using exterior grade or Pressure Treated laminated or engineered lumber that won't warp or bow. I need to buy four 2 X 12's at least 16 ft long. Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

    answer:

Visit a local lumber yard that services contractors with quality material. Ask of them guidance in the products offered. Make a price comparison between the types of material in which you are interested. Some vendors have stair stringers precut which will save you time. Otherwise you will probably be using the old stringers as the pattern.

    question:

Can turf be laid on the black cotton type mesh 'weed' re-stricter material?
This is used to stop weeds forcing through gravel under decking, only it seems this might restrict mushroom growth. Thus, enabling the kid's to safely play outside next year.

    answer:

NO. Your sod's roots will be restricted from growing into the soil. Mushroom growth is due to organic material buried in the soil. Wooden construction debris, old tree roots, etc, Remove this organic material and the fungus that produces mushrooms has nothing to feed upon. Water properly (deeply & infrequently) so ground is not always wet or moist and you should control mushroom growth.

    question:

What is a resonable price for a 10x19 Screen Porch?
Porch would have decking for flooring and a tongue and groove ceiling. Three electrical outlets and pre-wired for a ceiling fan. Also a storm screen door rather then a wooden screen door. Need to know what a good price would be for adding a porch to my home.

    answer:

Although you have provided more information than most people who post this type of question, there still is insufficient information to provide a good answer. Someone might hazard a guess as to a price based on square footage, but it would still be a guess at best and will almost certainly be way off base.

Structurally, you describe building a room with a traditional roof and overhang that should match your house. You have not mentioned the pitch of the existing roof of your house ... the porch roof should match. Screen panels between roof support posts replace a framed solid wall. You do not indicate whether the screen area will fun from floor to ceiling or if there will be a knee wall around the perimeter. I assume that the deck that makes up the floor would be built in a manner that accomodates the load of the roof above. You have not indicated the height of the deck off of the ground. You have specified an exit door, but without the height off the ground, it is impossible to estimate the price of a landing and flight of stairs. And on ... and on ... and on. You get the picture.

The best advice I can give you is to hire someone to design your room, provide a set of drawings, and write you a set of specifications. For a project of this type, you should be able to get this done for 0.00 or less. It will be the best money you spend on your project.

Once you are satisfied with your plans and specifications, it is time to let them out for bid. Choose three or four reputable contractors in your area and have them submit bids to build your project based on your plans and specs. Your buying decision will be simplified because they are all bidding on exactly the same project.

If you intend to make this a "do-it-yourself" project, take your plans and specifications to the Contractors Desk at your local Lowe's, Home Depot, or neighborhood lumber company and they should give you a free itemized list of materials and pricing. This is what they do on a daily basis so don't be afraid to ask. You can purchase from one source or buy the components from the entity with the cheapest price for each.

Keep in mind that you are building a structural addition to your house and will almost certainly need a building permit. The permit application will require that you submit a set of plans and specifications. This is just one more reason to nail down the plans and specs on the front end of your project.

I hope this information helps. Good luck with your project.

    question:

Can you build a ship whose bow and deck is about 200 feet over water level to withstand rogue waves?
this way the ship, either a cruise ship or other type of ship can be able to withstand rogue monster waves or have a regular ship that can be specifically designed with the right composite materials and special glass covering at the top part of the ship.

It would be kind of like the shape of a football, so it could roll right side up when flipped upside down. Then you would need everything bolted down and have seat belts. Are these feasible / do-able and realistic?

    answer:

If I were asked to design a ship to deal with rogue waves, I would just build a submarine. One of the best ways to deal with a problem is to avoid it. That is what the sub would do.

    question:

What material can I use to cover Ramp besides carpeting? Ramp is 18 feet long and is used to enter mobile.?
I live in Arizona in the mountains where it snows in the winter. I currently have outdoor carpeting which has rotted and needs to be removed. It is only 3 years old and already is ruined. Is there any other product I can use that will last longer? The carpeting was a pain and took a lot of work. The ramp is 18 feet long and at the top is 3 feet off the ground which leads to a deck and into a mobile. I need something to put on the wood so it will not be slippery besides carpeting. Is there a product out there that will do this?

    answer:

Most of your big lumber yards such as Lowes, Home Depot etc carry a non slip paint. These types of paint have little pieces of rubber in them so you will not slip while walking on it. They are not that expensive and it should only take 1 to 1 1/2 gallons to do the area you described.

    question:

When would a 24-foot boat be required to carry at least one Type B fire extinguisher?
    a. The boat has fuel stored in an enclosed compartment.
    b. The boat has a portable fuel tank on the open deck.
    c. The boat does not have floorboards or decking.
    d. The boat is powered by an outboard motor.

    answer:

Why do we always have people who are ready to give a response to folks who are known to be taking the exam? Why? We're not doing them any good so that this is learned. We need to stop and make them look up the answers, or better yet, read the material they are supposed to be studying.

    question:

How much to build a second story deck?
Our home has a wrap around deck, finished in front and one side. It needs to be finished on the back, second story part of the home (its a raised ranch). The dimensions would be 8' by 48'. Just wondering around what it would cost for something basic, nothing fancy for labor and materials. We are in the midwest if that makes a difference in lumber prices.

    Thanks.

    answer:

Go to Home depot, Menard's or Lowe's and talk to the folks at the contractors desk they will help you with all of the specs and give you a complete material list and cost data sheet for the diy type guy. Then call out contractors and have them bid the design for install. This will ensure everyone is on the same page and bidding the same thing. Each contractor will pick up on different things that will improve the job. Without seeing the job sight I would have to say you are looking in the neighborhood of 8-10k

    question:

What safety measures should be taken at the time of construction of a 12 storied building?
How can 100% safety of such a construction site can be guaranteed so that nobody falls from the rooftop or even if one falls can be saved before reaching the ground? And how can falling of construction materials such as bricks ,woods etc on passers by can be completely avoided?Civil Engineers, plz come forward to reply.Thanks.
Mike:Can scaffolding give a protection against falling? You have mentioned 'barriers at the edges'.How can these barriers be given? Can u name a few materials?

    answer:

Well you can never guarantee 100% safety simply because you can't account for stupidity... But to make it as safe as possible, before you even start you would want to select a contractor with a robust health and safety policy and a good safety track record in constructing similar structures. Then you would want a method statement and risk assessment to demonstrate how your particular building is to be constructed and to show that the contractor has identified all the risks. With regard to working at height, your workers will need to be properly trained for such work. Fall protection is a must - hard barriers should be placed around the edge. Workers near the edge should be tied off 100% of the time, preferably with self-retracting lifelines, and should be supervised at all times. Falling objects can be avoided by placing toe-boards and/or netting around the edge. Loose materials should be kept in proper bags or containers. Tools should be fitted with lanyards and tied off to suitable anchorage points. Finally to protect passers-by you should preferably implement an exclusion zone. If that's not possible then install a crash deck to catch any falling objects before they hit the ground (or someone passing by).
That's a brief summary and I'm sure there are some things I've missed, nevertheless it should give you some ideas as to what is required.
    Edit:
Yes, in my experience scaffolding is the most common type of edge protection. You could fix the uprights to the steel beams/columns and run scaffold tubing as handrails and knee-rails, with scaffold boards as toe boards

    question:

how do you get a permit for a already built deck?
yeah long story short couple years ago my dad built a deck and now my mom wants a permit because of some reason....... oh yeah i live on long island by the way if tats helps at all
its on the second floor and has a staircase on the end of it

    answer:

Well. You might be in trouble if you do that. If you are ok with lying, you are going to have to pretend it was never done and go through the process of getting it done. They will help you but you will probably have to give them drawings of how you are going to do it and a list of the type of materials. I would suggest making this deck look new for when the inspector comes out so he/she can't tell it's 2 years old. Maybe stain?

    I hope this helps.

    question:

How much should I expect to pay for a 12 x 24 deck?
I want to put a deck in my back yard. It would be 12 x 24 and attached to the back of the house. The sliding door on the back of the house is 19 inches off the ground and I would just want the basic deck. Nothing too fancy. It would need railings and one set of stairs to the ground. The materials would just be plain pressure treated lumber. I don't need Trex or anything like that. Can anyone tell me how much this should cost?

    answer:

The type and quality of materials chosen determine the total price. Pressure-treated wood such as southern yellow pine (which might splinter or turn gray over the years) costs - a square foot installed, or ,800-08 for a flat, 12x24-foot deck. Redwood or cedar, which can last up to 20 years, is -22 a square foot or 84-36 for 12x24. Durable teak-like tropical hardwoods are -24 or more installed, or 36-12 for 12x24.
Virtually indestructible plastic-wood composites are around a square foot installed, or 60 for 12x24-feet. Low-maintenance vinyl deck systems, which include rails, range from -22 a square foot installed, or 44-36 for 12x24.
Rails, steps, benches or overhead arbors all add to the price tag. Having a contractor install a 12x24-foot multi-level deck with railings and stairs averages 72-520 or more, depending on the complexity of the design and the type of materials.
RemodelingOnline publishes an annual report on specific home projects, listing average prices nationwide and by nine US regions; its 2006 estimates for a deck addition are ,462-,297 for 16x20-feet using composite material installed in a simple linear pattern, with a built-in bench and planter, steps and railings, all supported by pressure-treated joists and 4x4 posts set into concrete footings

    question:

Where can I find plans to build a front porch on a double wide?
I have a double wide trailer that I would like to add a front porch to. Can anyone help me find plans or a materials list so I can do it myself?

    answer:

Goggle- decks- you'll find all types of decks.

    question:

Best wood for an outdoor bench?
We're planning to build a low wall along one edge of our patio that can provide double duty as a seating area. I'd like it to have a wood top made from 2x4's or 4x4's. I'm wondering what type wood is suitable. Would white oak work if it's well sealed, or would it warp? I'm not crazy about cedar and teak is so expensive.

    answer:

There are hundred year old ships made from white oak. It would be ideal. You could look at composite decking material but that may not be the style you are looking for. There are many other woods that are ideal for outdoor furniture but they are expensive like teak. If you have a specialty lumber store around, they should be able to show you some of the different woods.

One important thing to consider when using wood outside is to get the "crown" correct. When you look at the end of the board, you may see a curve in the rings. You want these rings to look like a "U". The rings will tend to flatten. If you have it upside down, the boards will up and hold water.

    question:

Is there a British type of SWAT enforcement?

Other specializes UK police units include:

    Special Projects Unit
A specialist squad of 30 Met detectives tasked with countering the threat of contract 'hit men' and drug and firearms trafficking. The special projects unit includes undercover and armed officers.

    Civil Nuclear Constabulary
The CNC are charged with guarding civilian nuclear sites (power stations, processing and storage plants) and shipments of nuclear materials. As such shipments make tempting targets for terrorists, CNC officers are routinely armed, sometimes very heavily. When escorting shipments at sea, CNC officers have reportedly been seen manning 30mm Oerlikons deck guns!

    Ministry Of Defence (MOD) Police
MOD Police provide security for much of the UK's military industrial complex. This includes weapons factories, defence facilities, military housing and research centers. All MOD police officers are firearms trained. Weapons fielded by MOD Police officers have included the SA80 assault rifle, MP5 sub machine gun and browning 9mm pistol. These weapons have been gradually phased out in favour of the HK MP 7 PDW, a 4.7mm gun. The rationale behind this replacement is that it will be cheaper to train for and maintain a single weapon system rather than the more tradional rifle/carbine with sidearm arrangement.

    Hope that helps

    question:

How much money does it take to maintain a pool and how often do you have to clean it?
Im looking to buy a swimming pool for the family pretty soon and just wanted to know how often you need to clean it and how much all of the chemicals cost. Is it easy to clean? Im getting one of those above ground small to medium sized rubber pools (or whatever their made out of) Can these type of pools easily rip? Could an animal rip it?

    answer:

As soon as we bought this house with its huge back yard, we decided to get an above ground pool. Our yard is very long and narrow so we got an oblong shapped pool to give us the most room in and out of the pool vs a round. We got the best one (within our means ) with the best guarantees. We had to grade the yard (dig it up and level it). We dug down about 1 foot, put down a special sand or some kind of natural material to cover the dirt underneath the pool. When we did it, we had a teen age son who helped my very young husband. Now, I would recommend paying for installation and setting it up. My husband was a master mechanic, electrical expert and experienced with building all kinds of things. Before we got our pool, he and my son dug a long, deep, path from our house to the back of the yard ( about 40 feet) to lay down electrical , telephone & plumbing equipment. He errected a pole with a "supply box" enclosed to protect the switches, etc. It was so great I called it the "Panama Canal" when they were digging it.

We bought a 12 ft wide by 24 foot long pool which was great for swimming. We had to have 2 ladders and a platform (not a deck which is common now) at one end to get in and out. Next to it, he poured some concrete to hold the filters, etc. We also bought an outdoor storage shed to house the pool equipment during the cold months along with chairs, lawnmower, etc.

Yes, it cost a lot, but we had over 25 years of using it from Memorial Day to about 2 weeks after Labor Day. Kids had pool parties, we had family cookouts with swimming included. But the best use of the pool was by me and my hubby after work. After working, commuting and having dinner, the ability to go and get in the pool for 1 to 2 hours in the evenings was priceless.

Before getting the pool, on weekends we used to have to pack up 3 kids ( a lot of work) & drive to a lake or the shore, very expensive, getting stuck in traffic and coming home to unload the car. With the pool - all that was gone.

For our family, it was a lot of work, upkeep ( I learned to vacuum the pool, change the filter &put on the netting to catch any leaves) but we all chipped in, enjoyed it and thanked God that we had the space and means to get our own pool. We kept it clean, winterized it and covered it at the end of Summer & when we opened it in late Spring, the water would be blue and clean. We all took good care of it.

I'm not aware of current prices but the chemicals involved are not as expensive as the equipment. During that time, we replaced first filer with a better one. When we first filled it & replaced the liner only once. A City Inspector came because of the high water usage to see if we had a major leak.

Every family is different but I know it's too much for one person. I tried to keep it going after my husband died and couldn't do it so we took it down. The linning may have to get replaced every 10 years or so but you have to be carefull and keep sharp object out of the pool.

You have to access your family's needs, how much it will be used and be aware of safety issues with small children ( need a lock on your gate to keep small children out). Only you can decide but I wish you well. It was definetly one of the best decisions (as a family) we ever made.

    question:

what are the requirements to install a shingle roof?
Thank you in advance if you kind enough to help me out..! What are the requirements, materials, and skills needed to provide and install a shingle roof?

    answer:

It depends on the type of shingle you want to use, wood or composition.

If you use Composition Shingles, you will need to either strip all of the old shingle off your roof or if there is only one layer of shingles on your roof you may put the new shingles right over the existing roof.

If you strip the old roof off, then you will need to be sure that there is a solid deck to which you are going to apply the new roof. First apply a layer of roofing felt over the deck.(Check local codes to see what thickness of felt is required.) At the ends of the roof you need to apply a metal flashing to prevent water getting under the shingles. If you are in an area where you receive much snow you may be required to install a snow barrier around the perimiter of the roof.

Apply the shingles according to the instructions that come with the shingles.

In all cases you should consult your local Building Department official to determine whether a permit is required.

Because of fire hazards, I do not recommend applying a wood shingle roof

The skills required to install a roof are not too great but knowing what to do when is critical. I would advise finding someone who has installed a roof before or hiring a roofer to do the job for you.

    question:

How many inches of soil and other material needed to fill an herb planter box 24" deep x 24" wide x 13' long?
The planter box is made of concrete blocks, has a native acidic soil base, with 1" levelling sand currently along the bottom. Deer come into the yard, so vegetables are not planned; but herbs and daffodils seem to work in the full sun location along the deck.

    answer:

Herbs and small plants certainly do not need 24" of soil, the depth of your planter. Here's a tip from Marthat Stewart: Reduce the amount of soil needed AND the weight of your container by filling about half of it with popcorn type packing material. This will also provide good drainage. Then fill the remaining depth with good potting soil.
